news imageMuch to report.

First of all, User 927 by Katharine Clark Gray is the winner of the 2009
Next Generation Playwriting Contest! As you may remember, I directed the
Finalist reading of User 927 in June. Thereafter, it was selected as this
year's winner. I couldn't be happier for Katie or more proud of that reading.

Second, I directed the excellent Miss Mary Dugan by Manuel Igrejas for
the Fresh Fruit Festival in July. A wonderful time -- two great actors, a
charming and delightful script, and a talented (and sane!) playwright.
Absolute fun from beginning to end.

Third, I'm elated to announce that my short play Just exactly like is a
finalist for the 2009 Heideman Award at Actors Theatre of Louisville's
National Ten-Minute Play Contest! Some of the finalists are chosen to be
presented in Louisville either in January or March; I won't know anything
about that until about the end of the year. But right now, I'm grateful,
excited, and happy as a clam.

And last (for now), today was the first rehearsal for Manhattan Theatre
Club's upcoming Broadway revival of Kaufman & Ferber's The Royal
Family
, directed by Doug Hughes and assistant directed by...me! The cast
is astounding (Rosemary Harris, Jan Maxwell, Tony Roberts, John Glover, Ana
Gasteyer, Larry Pine, David Greenspan, and Caroline Clay, to name a few),
the design team is peerless (John Lee Beatty, Kenneth Posner, Catherine
Zuber, Darron West), and for God's sake, MAURY YESTON is composing the
incidental music for the production! The read-through was exciting as hell.
Yeah.

That's all I have to report at the moment. Hope everyone out there is well!
